My name is Angela Rutkowski and I am a first-year medical student at my dream MD program, Rush Medical College in Chicago. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) in 2019 with a Bachelor’s in Neuroscience and minor in Sociology, I took one gap year before starting medical school. Throughout undergrad and my gap year, I was involved in diverse experiences that stood out in my application and shaped my path.
As a first-generation college student and the first in my family to pursue medicine, I had absolutely no guidance. I was a lost pre-med. I know what it’s like to continuously struggle, face adverse circumstances, be reminded of all my weaknesses, and overcome failures. In sharing my journey with full transparency, I hope to support yours and be the mentor I so badly wish I had.
Throughout my journey, I learned things the hard way. I’m here to share everything with you- my top advice, application insights, things I would do differently, key secrets nobody tells you, and absolutely anything else you want to know.
Above all else, I’m here to remind you: it all works out the way it’s supposed to and you are exactly where you are meant to be. I promise.
